Get ready for an early start, and prepare for a fantastic day out in the car.
Our meetup point is
Coles Express Torquay 8:30am
Address: 20 Winki Way, Torquay VIC 3228
Say G’Day to everyone, fill up the fuel tank and check your tyre pressures. Then grab a coffee and some servo snacks, because when 9.00am rolls around we’ll be hitting the road.
Torquay to Lorne 9am – 10am
Get your tops down and sunroof’s open, we’ll hit the road and begin this spectacular drive. We’ll leave Torquay and take the scenic route, touring past the iconic Jan Juc and Bells beaches before arriving at the coastal town of Anglesea.
As we leave Anglesea the scenic experience really begins, with magnificent coastal views dominating the 30km stretch to Lorne. Crank up your favorite tunes, or strike up some great conversation with your travelling companions. On our way we’ll pass through the towns of Airey’s Inlet and Fairhaven taking in the sweeping vistas in between.
Around 10am, we’ll arrive at the resort town of Lorne where we will stop for morning tea. You can enjoy a pie, or perhaps a pastry and coffee from Grandma Shields Bakery. We’ll stretch our legs while taking in the views of the ocean and the sandy beaches.
Lorne to Forrest 45 mins
From Lorne we go inland, but don’t alas! The winding road and beauty continues as we drive the mountain road through the Otway ranges before reaching our next destination at the township of Forrest. Here, we will Pit Stop at the Forrest General Store for homemade Coffee and Cake, toilet break and leg stretch before getting eagerly back into the cars for the next exciting installment of our drive.
Forrest to Apollo Bay 45 mins
Back in the car for more curves and bends as we cross the Otway ranges again, we’ll take in the lush green rainforest before we descend down the mountains into Skenes Creek. We finish up this stage Back on the Great Ocean road taking in the breathtaking views once again as we roll into Apollo Bay
We’ll pull up at the Apollo Bay Fisherman’s Co-Op for a feed of fish and chips by the bay.
Apollo Bay to Lorne GOR 1hr
With our bellies full we’ll hit the road again. This part of the drive is absolutely picturesque, and arguably the best part of the Great Ocean Road. Craggy Cliffs, empty beaches and soaring bluffs flanked by brilliant green countryside. The road hugs the seaside cliffs and snakes along the wild and windswept southern ocean non-stop for almost an hour of driving.
Lorne to Torquay GOR – Rotary Cruise 1hr
In Lorne we’ll join up with the Rotary Club of Torquay, as part of their Great Ocean Road Cruise.
We’ll finish the drive off with a leisurely drive back to Torquay, where we will join the Torquay Motor Show Pre-Festival. Where we will debrief with our friends whilst enjoying an evening of Family Fun, Live Music, and Good Food
